Malice in Saffron: Character list

Jehanine (Jhane): The main Character who was abused by her stepfather and escaped to Paradys and joins a nunnery. She is a young girl with pale yellow hair. Anyway, she escapes from her step-father and goes to Paradys where she joins a nunnery and later, a group of thieves.


Belnard: Jehanine’s stepfather who rapes and abuses her.


Jehanine’s unnamed stepbrother: He rode a donkey to the church that Jehanine went to and tried to rape her. He was kind of bulky like his father. Jehanine knocked him out under a tree naked.


Pierre: Pierre is a young man with wringing- wet yellow hair who is said to be handsome. He was Jehanine’s step brother who Jehanine loved but when Jehanine told her what her father did to her, he denied everything she did and does not help her. He later gets assaulted by a group of thieves. Pierre was also the apprentice of an artisan.


Fero: a fat dwarf – like guy who is a member of the band of thieves and may be a shape shifter. He followed Jehanine and eventually, she ended up going to a nunnery. He was also the reason how she knew about the band of thieves. Fero is probably Esrafel.


Scar-Nose: He was a thin man with a scar down his long nose who was part of the group of thieves. He was cold blooded and was involve in the murder of an old man and a young boy. They had a hard time killing the young boy and when the boy was about to call for help, he slit the boy’s throat.



Jehan: Jehan is Jehanine disguised as a boy who took over a brotherhood of thieves and used them to get revenge on Pierre by getting them to rape him. However, Jehan does spare him partly because he is her brother. Jehan begins to grow more and more brutal until a plague starts killing many people and Jehanine helps out to save as many lives as possible.


Master Motius: He was an artisan and a teacher. One of his former students was Pierre and when Jehan came, he recognized that Jehan was Pierre’s siblings. He and his students seemed to have known what Jehan had did to Pierre. In fact, some of his students threatened Jehan but he went and showed her some of Pierre’s works which included a painting of Jehanine under a tree.


Osanne: She is a novice nun and Jehanine’s friend who is extremely religious but eventually discovers that Jehanine is evil. She tries to help Jehanine escape evil but she is later found dead inside the well.

Conrad: one of the thieves who finds Jehan to be attractive but does not know that Jehan is actually a girl. Conrad realizes how brutal she truly is and calls her the devil.


The Devil (Lucifer): It is said that Satan is the one who rules the world and is technically god. He is a fallen angel and a reference to biblical text. People in the nunnery worship but they don’t know that.


The mother: she is the head of the nunnery (the Queen Bee) and seemed to be more disgusted rather than upset that Osanne had died. Even Marie – Lis committed suicide, she only saw it as an act of sin and said that the Lord forgives. The deaths of the nuns only makes her feel disgust rather than feeling bad for them.


Esrafel: Satan’s right hand man who has wings and is known to be tall.


Azazel: Satan’s left hand man


Marie-lis: She was one of the youngest nuns in the nunnery and she ended up hanging herself.
